…Applications open for accelerator programme targeting Bahraini SMEs and tech startups
Al Salam Bank has announced its participation in the Open Innovation Programme, becoming the first bank in Bahrain to do so. This development marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to strengthen collaboration between financial institutions and local startups.
The programme, backed by Tamkeen and managed by Brinc MENA, is designed to connect large businesses with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups. Its aim is to co-create technology-driven solutions that address current challenges in the financial sector.

Focus on co-creation and support
Through this partnership, Al Salam Bank will engage directly with selected startups to explore and test new banking solutions. These may include artificial intelligence tools and technologies aimed at improving customer service and operational efficiency.
The bank will also provide financial support to help co-develop these innovations. According to the bank, this approach reflects its commitment to working with homegrown businesses and supporting the growth of a more digitally advanced financial system.

A strategic move for Bahrain’s innovation ecosystem
Tamkeen’s Chief Executive, Maha Mofeez, stated that the initiative highlights Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a strong and active startup ecosystem. “This partnership demonstrates our focus on building a knowledge-based economy and promoting innovation among local businesses,” she said.
Anwar Murad, Deputy CEO of Banking at Al Salam Bank, explained that the bank’s objective is to “shape the future of digital banking together with local innovators.”

Accelerator programme details
Startups selected for the programme will enter a six-month accelerator, gaining access to mentorship, funding, and the opportunity to pilot their technology with Al Salam Bank.
This initiative offers Bahraini startups a direct path to scale their ideas and work with one of the country’s major financial institutions.
