He made this call during the UN Food Systems Summit +4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he presented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national strategy on agriculture.
National strategy on food security
Shettima said the strategy includes a declared state of emergency on food security and ongoing reforms to rebuild the sector. The plan aims to transform agriculture into a “resilient, youth-driven, and market-based engine of growth.”
He added that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in agribusiness and food processing are key to achieving food system goals.

Support for SMEs and smallholders
The Vice President said the strategy would improve market access, drive innovation, and support smallholder farmers and entrepreneurs in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas.
“This is about supporting homegrown businesses and using agriculture to drive inclusive economic development,” he said.
