…New initiative for women in export
The Federal Government has launched the Women in Export Development Initiative (WEIDE) to support 10,000 women-owned export-ready businesses by 2030. The programme also aims to help 3,000 women-led SMEs access international markets by 2027.
First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, described the programme as “a movement to put Nigerian women entrepreneurs on the global trade stage.”

International support and training
WEIDE is backed by the World Trade Organisation (WTO), International Trade Centre (ITC), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment. It will provide grassroots export training, digital trade skills, and access to platforms such as AfCFTA and SheTrades.

Funding and reforms
The launch also unveiled the $50 million WEIDE Fund, offering up to $30,000 in grants and technical support. Minister of Industry Dr Jumoke Oduwole pledged reforms to ease exports and expand financing.
NEPC CEO Nonye Ayeni said 68,000 women applied nationwide, with beneficiaries to receive funding, training, and global exposure.
