Nigeria Fintech Week opens on Tuesday in its ninth edition, running simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt for the first time in the event’s history. Organised by the Fintech Association of Nigeria under the theme Legacy in Motion, Powering the Digital Renaissance, the two-day gathering will bring together fintech founders, banks, regulators and investors to examine what comes after a decade of rapid digital payments growth.

Why the event has expanded
FintechNGR said the three-city format reflects how fintech adoption has spread beyond Lagos into other commercial centres, and is intended to give participants across the country direct access to industry discussions without needing to travel. The main venue in Lagos is the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, formerly the National Theatre.
Conversations across the two days will span digital payments, financial inclusion, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital banking, blockchain and regulation, with more than 20 thematic tracks in previous editions drawing over 20,000 ecosystem participants.

The shift the industry is discussing
‘DeRemi Atanda, Managing Director of Remita and one of the event’s keynote speakers, framed the moment directly. As fintech becomes more embedded in the economy, he said, the standard changes. The industry is no longer building only for adoption; it is building for dependence.
That distinction matters for small businesses. A payment app that merely gets used is different from one a trader can rely on every single day without a failed transaction costing a sale. Reliability, fraud resilience and infrastructure depth are becoming the metrics that separate serious platforms from the rest.
Why SMEs should pay attention
Previous editions have included dedicated youth and SME capacity building workshops, alongside product showcases from fintechs building credit, savings and payment tools specifically for small merchants. Registration for NFW26 is free and open to entrepreneurs, professionals and students.
For Nigerian SMEs already navigating a fintech landscape crowded with payment, credit and inventory tools, the event offers a rare single window to compare products, meet providers directly and understand which platforms are investing in the resilience that daily commercial use actually demands.
